Our Beginning
Founded in 1996 by Curtis Teague, A Step Above Stables grew from a lifelong passion for horses. Growing up just a mile from the farm he would eventually own, Curtis was immersed in commercial farming from childhood, working cattle and hogs alongside the family operation.
But Curtis was captivated by horses in a way that called to him differently. After leaving the family farm, he pursued what captured his heart most: a 20-year career leading trail rides. Those two decades deepened his understanding of horses—their temperament, their needs, and what truly makes a great riding partner.
Our Mission Today
When Curtis retired from guiding, he didn't step away from horses. Instead, he returned to what he loved most: hand-selecting quality horses and building relationships between people and the animals that would become part of their lives.
Today, Curtis remains personally involved in every aspect of the business, ensuring that every horse we sell reflects the same standards he's upheld for decades. We take pride in matching people of all experience levels with the right horse—whether for trail riding, showing, or simply enjoying time in the saddle.
